191027–Knee Mobility and Half Dome

The biggest requests I’ve gotten lately are more videos. I’ll do my best to continue working them in, and over time become less text-heavy and more video-friendly. Seems a lot of folks like their content more through watching and listening than through reading. The three main updates today all involve some video component (though only one provides a real opportunity to learn more healthy practices), so enjoy.

After adding the shoulder mobility in my September 13 update I promised to continue adding videos to the fitness video section. Here are the best you-tube demonstrations I could find for a set of knee mobility exercises and stretches. Joint mobility is still the most overlooked aspect of physical fitness for many folks and improving here will increase performance and decrease injuries.

Last weekend I had a much-anticipated trip up Half Dome in Yosemite after the cables were taken down. Great hiking/camping/climbing (if you can call it that) trip overall. A few shots below, and all our photos can be found here.

Crew on the way up by Vernal Falls, about half way to Nevada Falls and the campsite below Half Dome.
Here’s the crew I summited with.
This is half dome from the bottom. The ledge circled is the ‘diving board’
… and there I am on the diving board. Probably the shortest handstand I’ve ever done, but our Irish companion on the trip was quick enough to get a good shot while I was vertical.

Speaking of videos, I was asked to post some instructional videos on doing handstands by a bystander as I was recorded doing the below, so I will try working that in soon…

Finally, here is a link to some photos and videos from the simulated race we did at Fit Factory Kingston a few weeks back.
