Happy President’s Day and Holiday week. I seem to get a these updates in on holidays lately so hopefully I can keep that tradition alive.
I’d like to share a couple of food-related items today. First is on one food item that is a staple in almost every diet. In fact, it’s one of the rare foods that can be an integral part in almost every nutritional approach (except the carnivore diet I guess), and isn’t contentious to discuss, aside from some nuances about its source—olive oil. Here is a fascinating podcast that goes through some of its history, the science behind its chemistry and lipidology, and some good ideas for uses: Olive oil podcast. While I can’t personally vouch that the olive oil club discussed is worth the price of admission, it sure is an interesting idea too.
Secondly, I’ve added to my recipe section with a page dedicated to smoothies. This page is sure to grow, but check out the start.
Finally, a TED talk on multi-tasking that has captured the essence of how to overcome a dilemma I’ve had in my mind: how does one work on lots of different things or pursue ‘polymath’ status while avoiding the inefficiencies and distractiveness of traditional multi-tasking. Tim Harford articulates this wonderfully here: slow-motion multitasking talk
Hope you enjoy!
The quote on my computer this week was: “Be present above all else”. In today’s media-driven, distraction-filled society this is much harder than it sounds, but I’m making progress.
My favorite new egg photo was made using superbowl chili leftovers—beans, red and green onions, bell and hot peppers, sausage, and avocado. Got a bit carried away with the inside quantity and had some breakage.
Excellent info on Olive oil! My go to fat!
In Ancient Greece, athletic prowess was honored not only by the victor being crowned with a wreath of olive and/or laurel leaves, but also given gargantuan clay vessels filled with freshly pressed olive oil.
Greeks to this day celebrate the ubiquitous olive harvest with great ceremony and joy
