Keto Fudge
Very simple…just mix 4 parts of your favorite nut butter to 1 part coconut oil and 1-2 parts cocoa powder (depending on how chocolatey you want it), spread out on wax paper and freeze an hour or so. Break it into pieces and keep frozen until eating. You can sweeten with stevia if you have a bit of a sweet tooth.
And here are two other keto-friendly, sugar-free desserts if you want something on the sweet side while reducing sugar intake: alternate keto fudge and fudge avocado brownies (thanks Kim for both of these suggestions!)
Eggs
I am going to dedicate an entire page to eggs, as they are one of my favorite things to cook and eat.
Keto Recipe Book
Here’s a fantastic keto cook book courtesy of Thrive Market (if you don’t know about Thrive you should check them out for buying high-quality, low-price non-perishable foods). And you certainly don’t need to be on a keto diet to enjoy some of these great recipes. See my nutrition sub-page for details on a ketogenic diet by the way…
Dark Chocolate
I’ve also dedicated a sub-page to my favorite treat.
Adventure Bread
Here is a fantastic recipe for what’s called ‘Adventure Bread’. a low glycemic-index, gluten-free bread that takes your whole-grain or sprouted Ezekial bread to another level: recipe link.
Like any recipe, I like to tweak it, adding things such as cocoa nibs, goji berries or other dried fruits and nuts, or replacing some of the rolled oats with almond flour or coconut flour. Have fun with it.
Smoothies
Smoothies are a great way to supplement or balance your nutritional intake, and can be delicious. Though there are plenty of resources on-line for smoothie tips and recipes, I provide you a framework from which to build all your smoothie bowls or cups from.
Kimmie’s Keto Tips
The Adventure recipe above was given to me by a good friend–we’ll just call her Kimmie–who shares a lot in common with me: works in pharma/biotech, passionate about health, raising one boy and one girl, has lived in MA and CA, and teaches at gyms on the side. She’s now one of the most successful people I know at applying ketogenesis to their health and has sent me so many good tips and recipes that I’ve started a whole page dedicated to her tips.
Homemade Pasta
You probably don’t want to go here if you’re keto, but if you love your pasta you really need to make it yourself!
Blended Fruit (Smoothie) Bowl
My daughter came up with this great way to consume fruit–somewhere in between eating it and drinking it in smoothie form. Similar to what some call smoothie bowls, but whipped up with more air than liquid. For those looking to control caloric intake or moderate eating speed, the whipped up air really helps do that. You’ll find yourself satiated much more quickly than either eating a plate of fruit or drinking a traditional fruit smoothie. Not to mention, super simple:
Recipe:
-a heaping 2 cups of frozen fruit
-1 scoop vanilla protein powder
-1/2 cup liquid (she uses almond milk, but depending on the fruit and powder, you can use water or any type of milk or juice)
Instructions: Blend in a food processor (ideally, although a high quality blender can be used for a thicker texture). Keep blending for several minutes until the consistency is very fluffy. Empty contents into a bowl, top with fresh fruit or nuts, seeds, or granola. Eat with a spoon. Tip: put your serving bowl in the freezer while preparing so the sides don’t get ‘melty‘

Great food and ingredients
OK, these aren’t recipes, but I want to start adding links to some of my favorite snacks, condiments, and foods outside the staples of fruits, veggies, and good cuts of meat & fish:
- Not sure why I’ve had never before came across barukas nuts, but if you’re a nut fan like me you have to try them and read about them. Get the roasted & salted ones and the nut butter.
- The Yellowbird Habanero hot sauce was always one of my favorites, as their ingredient list is closest to the homemade sauce I make (love the use of carrots, onions, and vinegar with my peppers). For some reason I never realized they made different flavors, though, until visiting their website. You can also get them on amazon here.
And a wonderful Italian sub made also by Aunt C with her delicious homemade bread:
